1987 started a project called Provide-A-Ride where I made flyer’s, passed them out to friends and bar owners and letting them know that if anyone needed a Safe and Sober ride home they could call Fathers Against Drunk Driving. FADD provided a Safe and Sober ride home to those that called. FADD operated during the Holiday seasons each and every year. FADD did not charge for this life saving sober ride home, we received sponsors and private donations for our work.
1990 FADD applied for and received a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.This grant was for professionally produced commercials or Public Service Announcements (PSA’s) as they are called in the television industry. We did all of the camera work, the music, and we hired actors for the voices in these “spots”.
FADD is planning to do more of these Public Service Announcements in the future. They are to educate whoever is watching them, also to remind them of the deadly consequences of drinking and driving.
These announcements will also bring awareness to the general public.
